Shoes Worth Keeping: Brands We Love

Here at shooli, we strive to promote taking care of the shoes (and other material things) that you already have, in order to minimize our consumption and waste we put into our world’s landfills. But we understand this doesn’t mean you can’t ever get new shoes. It means that it’s important to purchase from quality shoe brands, in order to be able to preserve their life and support the slow fashion movement.

By putting in a little extra thought into what shoe brands you purchase, and to strive for high quality shoes brands that are made to last and that are made ethically– both in terms of the environment and the people who work to make them– you ARE helping the environment. We have some brands that are our personal favorites and that we simply admire– made ethically and with quality in mind. Here they are.

Nisolo- Quality brands

N I S O L O
ethically made + high quality

Men and Women’s Shoes
// Intentionally designed, Ethically Made, and Fairly Priced.
// For every Nisolo product sold, a contribution is made to help protect forests in the Amazon Basin.

Everlane

E V E R L A N E
ethically made + high quality

Women’s Shoes (But they’re starting to branch into men’s shoes!)
// “We believe we can all make a difference. Our way: exceptional quality. Ethical factoires. Radical transparency. “
// Everlane’s “radical transparency” includes revealing the costs behind every aspect of their production process, so you know exactly what you’re paying for.

Native Shoes-

N A T I V E S H O E S
ethically made + community projects

The whole family, but especially great for kiddos!
// By 2023, each and every pair of Native Shoes will be 100% life cycle managed. Their first initiative recycles your used Native Shoes by giving them new life in projects across the community.
// Considering how quickly little kiddos grow out of their shoes, this seems especially great.

M.Gemi- A Quality Shoe Brand

M. G E M I
high quality + small workshops

Men and Women’s Shoes
// “Italian luxuries for a modern life.”
// M. Gemi partners with small artisanal workshops across Italy. All their shoes are handmade by families who have been working on their craft for generations.

These are just a few brands we love, there are so many more quality shoe brands out there that support slow fashion. All it takes is a little mindfulness and a little research. While these shoes may cost a bit more than shoes you’d find at your nearest Target, they are less expensive than many designer brands, which often times aren’t ethically made and even aren’t that high of quality! What matters are the materials and the production process.
